A practice-oriented introduction

Statistics and reliability are two key terms that play an increasingly important role in modern technology. Whether in wind energy, automotive, or marine gearboxes: Classic, safety-based strength assessments are increasingly reaching their limits. This seminar teaches you the basics of using statistical methods to perform reliability-based assessments, which opens up new potential in the design and calculation of technical systems.

In this practice-oriented seminar, we will teach you everything you need to know about statistics and applications for reliability assessments. Starting with the most important basics, from statistical terms to normal and Weibull distribution, you will learn step-by-step how to work with these distributions, apply parameter estimation methods, and derive statistical test procedures from specific questions. But that's not all: with the knowledge you have acquired, you will be able to create simple models to assess the reliability of technical systems and apply them in practice.

What is unique about this seminar is the direct correlation to actual technology. You will be shown numerous practical examples from gearbox and drive technology, and learn how to effectively integrate statistical methods into your daily work. Whether you are an engineer, developer, or manager, after this seminar you will be well equipped to safely evaluate the reliability of your systems and make well-founded predictions about the service life of technical components.

Target audience

This seminar is intended for engineers and specialists in the fields of design, development, and calculation who are involved with statistical methods and reliability assessments. It is also aimed at managers who need to be able to understand and evaluate reliability-based assertions in order to make well-founded decisions.

Main topics

  • Basics of statistics: terms, parameters, and graphical evaluation methods

  • Normal distribution and Weibull distribution: properties and parameter estimation

  • Statistical test procedures: Deriving suitable tests from practical questions

  • Introduction to fatigue strength reliability assessments

Objectives

After completing the seminar, you will be able to:

  • Apply the basic concepts and parameters of descriptive statistics and evaluate samples graphically.

  • Work with normal distributions and Weibull distributions, name their properties, and apply parameter estimation methods.

  • Derive suitable statistical test procedures and apply them to relevant issues.

Create and implement simple models to assess the reliability of fatigue strength calculations.
